Hydro power generation grew 3 per cent
Hydro power generation in India grew over 3 per cent in 2017-18 after three-consecutive years of lean generation marred by below normal rains and less snowfall.
Devendra Kumar Sharma, Managing Director of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, will be the new chairman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). The post had been lying vacant since September 2015, with temporary charge having been given to member, irrigation, SK Sharma.
In the past five years, coal power made up over two-thirds of capacity additions in India's generation, and currently accounts for more than 60 per cent of India's power capacity. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India's coal demand will see the biggest growth over the next five years, despite a global slowdown.
Russia, India sign joint statement on final takeover of Kudankulam Unit 1
On April 5, 2017 representatives of ASE Group of Companies (a subsidiary of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation) and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) signed a joint statement on final takeover of Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP). By signing the document, the Russian and Indian sides confirmed fulfilment of all warranty terms and obligations of the contractor (ASE Group of Companies) for the construction of the Unit 1.
