Welspun to invest Rs 5,675 crore in Karnataka's wind energy projects

Welspun Energy will be developing twin wind power projects in Karnataka, within the next five years. The independent power producer has been working toward developing a cumulative target of 1.7 GW of wind and solar energy projects. At the recently held Karnataka’s Global Investors Meet, the company had signed an MoU and Expression of Interest for 100 MW and 750 MW capacity wind power projects with Karnataka and the projects are to be developed in Bijapur, Chitradurga and Belgaum districts. Vineet Mittal, Co-founder & MD, Welspun Energy, said, “We want to help create a greener empowered India through our renewable energy projects. Welspun Energy is effecting a change on the ground. With the signing of these two projects we have moved exponentially forward in this direction.”

The state has been a natural choice for wind energy-based power generation. With a potential of 11,500 MW wind energy capacity, Karnataka holds the third favourable position in the country for wind-based power projects.
