A rooftop solar power unit has been readied for functioning by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). It has claimed that it is about to become the first public sector unit to switch on a rooftop solar power unit. The off-grid solar photo voltaic system has an installed capacity of 32 kwp (kilowatt peak), and will generate an average 120 units daily and help reduce KSIDC’s demand for grid power.
The tropical climate supplies the Kerala with abundant sunshine, which can help reduce its dependence on fossil fuel harnessing solar power. The system at KSIDC contains 250 wp/240 wp (watts peak) solar photo voltaic modules; power conditioning units of 30 kva and 10 kva capacity (kilo volt amps) with battery backup.
