Could you tell us about your company and the line of products you manufacture? HELUKABEL® is one of the world´s leading cable manufacturers and a global supplier of wires, cable and cable accessories as well as data, network and bus technology. A 100 per cent German owned and family run business (since 1978), our extensive product range contains over 40,000 line items, with a vast global network that enables us to deliver an order within an extremely short period of time.
We are also one of the major international suppliers in the machine and plant construction, automation technology and renewable energy sectors. Our specialties are in the industrial and infrastructure cable, control and signal, wind and solar cable, data, network and bus technology cable and robotic system services fields.
Our cables are approved by various international standard test like CE, UL, IEC, CSA and VDE, and this worldwide acceptance endorses the superior quality of our products. HELU INDIA has had an impressive Year-on-Year annual growth of about 30 per cent in the last few years.
Our first office in India for marketing and selling cables and wires was established in 2003. HELU India now operates through regional sales teams and strong dealer networks located in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Coimbatore and Vadodara. We are also shifting our head office and warehouse to a 30,000 sq ft area at Sanaswadi in Pune to provide better customer service.
Could you tell us a bit more specifically about the wind turbine cables that your company manufactures and which projects have you catered to?
We have introduced our latest cabling technologies for wind energy. Our torsion and aluminum power cables for the wind industry have been functioning since several years and we have catered to various companies like Enercon, Suzlon, Nordex, GE, Siemens, Vensys, Letwind and Alstom among others.
Cables in the wind turbine´s nacelle place extreme torsional stress on power cables. HELUKABEL understands this and has recently added new range of torsion cables to our portfolio, which have been rigorously tested in HELUKABEL´s wind turbine test simulator for up to 15,000 torsion cycles. A power cable for vertical lifts/elevators, HELUWIND WK LIFT, in wind turbines has also been added to aid in climbing up-tower walls and accessing the nacelle.
Furthermore, HELUKABEL has expanded its aluminum cable offering for the wind sector. HELU Aluminum cables and wires are gaining popularity for their reduced weight (70 per cent lighter than copper) and ability to perform comparably to their copper counterparts with only a minimal size increase to the cable or wire´s diameter.
Additionally, to ensure that the latest cables can connect to other wind turbine sub-systems, HELUKABEL has expanded the connection technology product range with additional aluminum and aluminum/copper hybrid compression terminal pins, shear bolt connectors and lugs, junction boxes and cable connectors.
Our goal is to provide our customers with quality cable, wire and accessory solutions that are competitively priced and delivered on time. We are able to do this by having a wide assortment in stock at both our Mississauga-based warehouse and technologically advanced, global distribution center in Germany.
How do you assess the market scenario in India? What impact do you think the new government policies or changing market conditions will have on your organisation?
Electrical cable business growth is dependent on the growth of the manufacturing sector and the country´s economy. The manufacturing sector had almost no growth in FY2012-13, but the new Government has given confidence back to the business. We can sense certain improvement in sentiment, in optimism. I think the willingness and openness is there, now we need to see the action.
India is set to become the world´s fastest-growing major economy by 2016, ahead of China. Indian economy is now best positioned among the emerging market economies and has gained global investors´ attention. Cables are the crucial infrastructure backbone of an economy. The industry´s prospect is interlinked with the health of the power and telecom industries, government´s procurement policies, strategic diversifications and integrated manufacturing. In this context, special focus has been given to impact of Government decisions on the industry.
Through ´Make in India´ initiative, the Government has received confirmation from various top technology firms regarding their decision to invest in the electronic, medical and automotive sectors.
So all together the future of the cable industry looks good.
However, more custom duty and CVD can adversely affect the growth of this industry, due to expensive imports.
The next 1-2 years will witness significant project developments and we are optimistic that our order growth in the infrastructure field will also grow in line with this development.
How has the growth of the company been over the years? What are your plans to take it to the next level?
HELUKABEL has a very strong brand image and are focused towards achieving the next phase of growth. For this we are working to further strengthen and develop our sales team and dealer network, technical training/concept selling etc. We believe in inclusive growth and are committed to our customers and employees alike. Our companies are well poised to not only grow further in scale but also balance the growth with satisfied customers.
From a medium to long term perspective, I see good opportunities for the Indian cable industry. The overall infrastructure sector in India is going to see huge investment from government and private companies, which will boost business. We registered 15 per cent growth in 2014 and are hoping for particularly high growth in 2015 as well.
Are there any new products that have been or will be launched soon?
HELUKABEL introduced its cleanroom approved power and data cable product portfolio with the launch of its CLEANFLEX series. These UL/CSA-approved, shielded and unshielded power and data cables are suitable for use in continuous-flexing, cable track-equipped machinery built for cleanroom applications, such as semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
Cleanroom environments are particularly challenging for manufacturers because even the smallest amount of contamination from particles such as dust or microscopic materials coming from the machinery can have damaging results on production. To prevent such particles from originating from the cable during continuous-flex operations, HELUKABEL designed the CLEANFLEX with a special polyurethane (PUR) outer jacket to minimize the release of cable dust into the air. The PUR jacket compound was rigorously tested and approved by the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Techniques and Automation after meeting their minimum particle emission into ambient air requirements.
Besides this, we have also introduced a complete range of green energy cables comprising the Green Line range for photovoltaic applications and HELUwind aluminium cables for wind energy. More than merely being suitable, the HELUKABLE range is actually designed and engineered to overcome challenges associated with this type of application.
The HELUwind WK Powerline Aluminium for example is a new generation power cable, built to reduce overall cost of installations due to its light weight which paves the way for less supporting infrastructure overhead as well as reducing the initial purchase price. In addition, the aluminium cable does not have an aftermarket value in scrap which reduces the chances of theft in the typically remote areas where theser plants are situated.
We have also added two new motor connection cables to our TOPFLEX product family - the TOPFLEX-EMV-UV-3 PLUS 2XSLCYK-J and the TOPFLEX-EMV-UV-2XSLCYK-J which have conductor temperature resistances of 90¦C.
A higher current load rating is possible due to the improved conductor temperature resistance of 90¦C. This enables a smaller cross section compared to standard cables to be used when designing electrical networks in machines or systems. In addition to the resulting lower costs and use of copper, the much smaller outer diameter offers advantages for installation in tight spaces due to an increase in the cable´s maximum bending radius.
