The clearance given by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs to set up the proposed regulator for the coal sector was welcomed by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India.
DS Rawat Secretary General ASSOCHAM said that the coal regulator will ensure transparency in pricing, quality and supply of coal. It will have the powers to resolve the disputes between the producers & consumers.
Further, he said, the regulator will also regulate methods for testing for declaration of grades or quality of coal, specify procedure for automatic coal sampling and monitor closure of mines and accord approval of mining plans.
