IEX (India Energy Exchange) issued a record 603,250 RECs ( Renewable Energy certificates) during an auction on October 31, 2012.
It is learnt that 301 players participated in the auction and it consisted of 112 participants from Discoms, captive consumers and open access consumers on the buy side and 189 eligible entities on the sale side.
More than 1,170 participants are registered in the REC segment at IEX till date. Out of this, 394 are eligible entities, 771 are obligated entities and 5 have been registered as voluntary entities. This was the 21st RECs auction. During the auction, IEX received record sale offers of 852,041 RECs.
In October, 2012 the total available RECs touched a new high of 15 lakhs, out of which more than 40 percent (over 6 Lac) RECs were not offered for sale.
The available RECs in the current month were higher than the total RECs traded in the last financial year. The total trading volume at IEX in the latest trading session was 133,051 RECs, including non-solar and solar.
Another distinctive feature in the last three sessions was that all purchase bids were successful since the price discovered was the floor price i.e. Rs 1,500 per REC.
