Energy efficiency is vital in achieving the energy turnaround and the building sector with a 40 per cent share in consumption has great savings potential. Emphasis here is on converting buildings that devour energy into energy efficient storage solutions and generators of energy. So the building becomes a green power station. In this context, the 'Light+Building' conference organised by Messe Frankfurt and Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturer's Association of India was held at Taj Mansingh in Delhi. Iris Jeglitza-Moshage, Senior V-P, Technical Fairs, Messe Frankfurt, said, "Lighting products and building technology have a decisive role to play in the new energy paradigm. The focal points are buildings as a green power station and digitalisation of lights and buildings." HS Mamak, Advisor, ELCOMA & Indian Society of Lighting Engineers said, "The lighting industry with a turnover of around Rs 8,000 crore recognises its socio-economic responsibility in providing green products to save a large quantity of energy. It not only provides products, but is also playing a pro-active role in improving the quality of life by reacting positively to environment concerns." He also made the official announcement of 'Light India' which is to be held from 5 - 8 October 2012 in Delhi.
