ABB on July 8 stated that it has bagged a contract from a Dutch firm Fastned, which builds electric-vehicle charging stations, to supply over 200 electric chargers. ABB is a power equipment manufacturing company. Fastned is building a network of 200 electric-vehicle charging stations along highways in Netherlands and will be equipped with several multi-standard fast chargers, the company said in a statement.
The first ABB fast chargers are expected to be delivered in September and the construction of the stations, which will have solar canopies, is scheduled to be completed by 2015, it said. Netherlands is the most populous country to roll out a nationwide fast-charging network.
Fast-chargers will be located a maximum of 50 km apart along all highways, and because of ABB's multi-standard design, the network will be capable of serving EVs offered by all major car brands from Europe, Asia and the USA, ABB Executive Committee Member Ulrich Spiesshofer said. ABB's open standards-based cloud connectivity solution will allow Fastned to create a user-friendly payment and access service for all drivers, he said.
Each web-connected ABB fast charger has a wide range of connectivity features, including remote assistance, management and servicing and smart software upgrades.
